Privacy Policy

At PyBites CodeChalleng.es we like to keep things challenging (get it?!). We do however draw the line at your personal information. In light of the recent GDPR changes we’ve written a no-nonsense, clear-as-day Privacy Policy outlining how we handle your data.

Information we hold

We only hold information that you intentionally provide us.

  • On initial registration with your Github credentials, we access only publicly available information you’ve set on your Github profile (except your email).
  • If you choose to write a bio we’ll also store this.
  • All code you submit using the “Save and Verify” button when completing Bites is also saved. In the interests of keeping data storage to a minimum, we only save the last 5 commits, not every historical commit.
  • Messages sent via the CodeChalleng.es platform messaging system are stored in a database accessible only to CodeChalleng.es administrators.

Usage of your information

Here’s how we use the aforementioned, captured information:

  • Your (confirmed) email address and Github username is used so we can contact you regarding updates to the CodeChalleng.es platform and our products, as well as general messaging.
  • Your Github username will also be displayed on our leaderboard on the dashboard page of the CodeChalleng.es platform. It will also link off to your Github profile page when clicked.
  • Your bio is not visible to anyone but CodeChalleng.es admins (Bob Belderbos and Julian Sequeira and our shared PyBites user). Anything written is used to gain insight into the user base to better serve their needs.
  • The Bite code is captured so the tests can be run against it using an AWS Lambda call. It is stored so a user may return to the Bite at a later date and continue coding without losing progress.
  • Messages are stored for simply to allow individuals to view their message history.

Please note, any information you provide as part of a Gumroad transaction when purchasing a subscription is subject to Gumroad’s privacy policy.

Deleting your data

Simple! If for any reason you want your data deleted, simply email us requesting that we delete your email address and name (if recorded). Alternatively, you can contact us via the platform itself using the messaging system: https://codechalleng.es/inbox/new.

You can also delete your confirmed email and profile bio on the Settings page.

Messages can be deleted at any time using the “Delete” button within the message thread.

Requesting your data

If you’d like to request a copy of your data, access the Settings page.

Data Protection Officers (DPOs)

GDPR guidelines mandate we take responsibility for data protection compliance. As such, consider both of us your DPOs:

Further information

If you need any further information on how we collect and use your data (or anything else really!), please send us an email at [email protected] or message us on the platform.
